Get To Dah Choppah!
Experimenting a bit with the Element 3D plugin for After Effects — putting together some proof-of-concept clips for a short film project I have in mind.
In the first pass of the video below, I was trying to emulate shaky, handheld, war photographer footage. The second pass is a little cleaner, without the camera shake, or missed focus.

Mi-Box | Video & Photography
After filming the Vampire 5k event Friday night, I caught a few hours sleep, off-loaded data from 7 cameras, re-charged the batteries and headed out again to shoot time-lapse and commercial photography for Mi-Box Storage in Centennial, Colorado.
Here’s a *very* rough edit of a portion of the time-lapse video, and a few photographs I took for their upcoming web campaign.

Vampire 5K Event Video
Yesterday, I had an inordinate, possibly illegal, amount of fun filming the Vampire 5K running event in Denver. It’s not often that you get to witness nearly a 1,000 people dressed as vampires and their prey, let alone run after them with $30,000 worth of camera equipment. AWESOME.
To help me out with the shoot, I was ridiculously fortunate to have enlisted the incredible talents of Tage Plantell at Silver Halide Pictures, and Brent Murray of Shutterbliss Cinema. I honestly can’t possibly exaggerate how much skill and creativity they brought to the production, and how happy I was to be working with both of them.
Tage was primarily shooting high-speed footage on a Sony FS700, which we’ll be using to give the finished promo some really gorgeous, ultra-slow-motion sequences. Tage is an incredibly gifted camera operator and DOP, and I’m absolutely thrilled we got to team up on this project.
Brent from Shutterbliss was flying an 8-bladed mini helicopter drone, taking aerial footage. The footage he captured is nothing short of STUNNING, and I cannot wait to cut it together with footage taken on the ground.
I would be completely remiss if I didn’t also mention how lucky I was to have the help of a fantastic ground crew, who proved totally invaluable throughout the shoot. Trying to get coverage of a 5 kilometer location with thousands of people would have been impossible to do alone. There’s just no way I could have done it without the assistance of Tim, Dusty, Kris, and Scott. I can’t thank those guys enough. Aside from all their hard work, it was a BLAST hanging out with those guys. We had a ton of fun, and I really hope we get to do it again soon!
