Once Again, Back Is The Incredible…
… “The rhyme animal, the incredible D; Public Enemy number one!” …
My mind is officially blown. My ego, has likewise been e’sploded. I’m 9 kinds of embarrassed right now. My face is beat red.
I took me about a day and a half to realize that the incredibly nice man named Hank Shocklee who hired me to redesign his website was the same Hank Shocklee who forms one half of the LEGENDARY production team, “The Bomb Squad”. If you’re not familiar with their name, you probably know their records. They’re responsible for some of the most seminal tracks in all of Hip Hop, and ushered in a sound that arguably changed modern music forever.
Mr. Shocklee helped craft hits for Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Third Base, Slick Rick, RUN DMC and many others. Unless you were trapped under a refrigerator with cotton in your ears for most of the ’80s and ’90s, you’ve probably heard his work. Bel Biv Devoe’s “Poison” was absolutely inescapable, for instance. Not to mention PE’s “Fight The Power”, which is HANDS DOWN one of the most scathingly righteous critiques of social inequality ever written, in any medium.
It’s probably best I wasn’t smart enough to put 2 and 2 together prior to my conference call with them last week. Had I made the connection, I probably would have driven him insane with fanboy worship.
“DUDE! You built the drum loops for ‘Don’t Believe The Hype’! You’ve hung out with Chuck D! I bought a sampler because of you!” It woulda’ been a train-wreck.
I’m sure he’d be absolutely thrilled to know he made such a big impact on a pampered, candy-ass suburban white kid from Alberta.
Anyway, I just thought that was awesome. And I’m ridiculously honored to be working on his new site. How lucky am I?!?
