Daylight, BAD!
UPDATE: Here’s a few frames from the Vampire 5k promotion video I’m working on, after sky replacement, motion-tracking and color correction:

This weekend is all about blotting out the sun. Working on a promotional video for the Vampire 5k, a themed fun-run where participants assume the role of vampires, or human “citizens” in a 5 kilometer event that’s part traditional run, part flag football, part Halloween, and part cosplay.
Nearly all the footage I shot was filmed during the day, so I’ll be going through all the selects, and employing heavy color-correction to turn them into night scenes. In most instances, I’ll also be motion-tracking the shot, masking out actors and foreground elements, and replacing the day-lit skies in the background with nice, dark, starry ones. It’s a lot of work, but so far, the results have been well worth it.

Practice, Practice, Practice
Got to hang out with some of my best friends in the world last night, making a big fat racket while we were getting songs ready for a show on New Year’s Eve. Also got to break out the new Canon 5D mk III, and the new 16-35mm zoom I picked up this week. Good times.

Tage, Mike and I give each other the hairy eyeball, while Damon mysteriously evades whatever it is the rest of us are cranky about.

Drummer extraordinaire, Mike Rice, hatches an evil plan.

Singer Damon Guerrasio, looking vaguely Robert Pattison-y

Me, and my beloved 1993, pre-Gibson Warwick Dolphin. The Millenium Falcon of basses; weird-looking, but cool.

Mike Rice, earning his endorsement deal.

Damon, and friends Scott and Courtney show their enthusiasm for placing random car seats indoors.

The face I come home to whenever I leave the house for longer than 15 minutes. MASTER OF GUILT. The sadness is palpable. Kills me.

Rocky Mountain Caps
I’m very pleased to welcome Rocky Mountain Caps as a new client. This local Colorado company designs and fabricates custom headwear for doctors, nurses, and others in the medical industry, as well as special hats and head coverings for patients undergoing chemotherapy. They also offer a line of hats that caters towards bikers, snowboarders, skiers and other active people who need to keep their hair in place, or stay warm and dry underneath a helmet.

I’ll be creating the company’s branding, designing their website, and taking their product photography. My good friend and frequent partner, Tom Benway at vectordefector, will be developing the site, along with it’s e-commerce solution. Shown here are some of the logo concepts I’ve been working on.

HR Backcountry | Promo Video
Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to start filming a promotional video for the Highlands Ranch Community Association Backcountry Wilderness Area. Thanks to the invaluable help of park supervisor, Mark Giebel, and HRCA staff members Eric and Hope, I was able to get some pretty great images of the wilderness preserve, and their two beautiful draft horses, Bella and Buster.

In the weeks to come, I’ll be going back for more videography, and ultimately editing together a web video to advertise the Backcountry’s fantastic hay rides and sleigh rides. It’s been all kinds of fun so far– can’t wait to shoot there again!
