Case Study: Colorado Firefighter Shirts
I felt a bit powerless, and wanted to help, so I sat down and contributed in the way I know how — I made some illustrations. It was something small, and it didn’t feel like enough, but I wanted to do something to show moral support for the people effected, and my genuine appreciation and gratitude towards the smoke-jumpers and municipal firefighters who stepped in to fight the blaze.
Thanks to the grace and compassion of a lot of friends, these drawings found some legs on Facebook, and it occurred to me that I might be able to have them printed on shirts, or posters, sell them inexpensively, and then donate that money to the Colorado Red Cross. Based on the recommendation of my great friend, and regular development partner, Tom Benway, I contacted the guys at Soapoint Graphics to see if they would be interested in helping.
I was completely BLOWN AWAY by their response. Without hesitation, they immediately offered their support. In a truly moving display of generosity and community, they stepped up to offer their formidable talents– these guys are really gifted at what they do — totally free of charge!
Not only did they donate their time and effort, they’re also fronting all the costs for materials! Are you kdding me?!?!? It was WAY, WAY more than I could have reasonably expected. I’ll forever be grateful to those guys.
If you’re able, please stop by their store and pick up a t-shirt, or a poster. Apart from an honestly negligible amount to cover materials, ALL of the profits will go to benefit the Colorado chapter of the Red Cross, who will in turn distribute the funds to those in need. I cannot thank everyone enough for their involvement in this. Thanks to everyone for passing around the pictures on Facebook, and of course, a MASSIVE thank you to Soapoint Graphics for coming through HUGE for a great cause. You guys are THE BEST!
