Site 07 has undergone a lot of changes since I launched it in 2001. Its seen several complete overhauls and countless revisions, as I tried to bring it in line with my changing tastes, my various work situations, and my evolving maturity as a designer.
When I first began freelancing, I worked almost exclusively in Flash, and the early versions of the site strongly reflect that. Just about every page had something that moved.
As I've gotten older and more experienced, I've retained my love of motion and animation, but I've truly come to appreciate the value of simplicity. Its a designer's cliche, but there really is something special about an intelligent, efficient, elegantly intuitive design.
I still love spending hour after hour making eye-popping visuals, but these days, I find a much deeper gratification when I'm able to work up a design that perfectly matches its function. I get incredibly excited when content, function and form all come together in some sort of magical feedback loop where each element resonates together to deliver a single message.
That's the ideal I'm chasing now.
